In no big surprise, Red Bull F1 driver Sebastian Vettel has taken the Pole for the 2010 British Grand Prix at the re-vamped Silverstone circuit with an amazing lap of 1:29.615. For Vettel, it is his fifth pole of the 2010 season and 10th of his Formula One career. This is Vettel’s second straight Pole as he also took the front starting position at the European Grand Prix at Valencia. This is also Vettel’s second straight Pole at the British Grand Prix.
For Red Bull it is their 9th Pole in ten Grand Prix of the 2010 season. It is also the team’s fifth lock-out of the front row starting-grid in 2010.
Vettel said of his Pole, “Wacka, Wacka baby! This Silverstone is amazing! It is so much fun as our car works very well. The speeds we reach are a bit crazy, and the new section is really great! I really like this track!”
Mark Webber is running in the repaired version of Lucious Liz – the car that Sebastian Vettel struggled with earlier this season – and was able to qualify second.
Webber said, “Coming back here after last the crash at Valencia was not ideal, but the team has done a good job.”
Fernando Alonso was the best of the rest as Red Bull’s dominance that has been clear all weekend continued. Ferrari have made a significant step forward this weekend as both Alonso and Massa have moved up the grid relative to the competition.
Alonso looked ahead to tomorrow’s race saying, “We are better, but we need to continue to improve the car. We are performing better now, I think here we are competitive and we hope to score some good points!”
Lewis Hamilton grabbed a respectable fourth place starting position on the grid while his teammate and 2009 Formula One world drivers champion Jenson Button had a horrible outing way back in P14 nearly a full second slower.
In the Mercedes garage Michael Schumacher – starting 10th – was once again beat out by his remarkable teammate Nico Rosberg – who will start P5.
Toro Rosso Jaime Alguersuari was the biggest loser today as he was knocked out
